 Twin Bay Docks and Products is located in Traverse City, MI and began in 1984 when Robert (Bob) Serschen was a sales manager for Honda Motor Company. Bob covered Michigan and Ohio for Honda and while he was driving around in Michigan, he came across a dock manufacturer. Bob decided to stop and see this manufacturer and ended up becoming a sales rep for the dock manufacturer. After one-year of working for the dock manufacturer he decided to start his own dock manufacturing company and began constructing treated wood and cedar dock in his 3 car garage.
Bob set up dealers to sell the dock that he was making in his garage and he was one of the first dock manufacturers to set up lumberyards with docks. Since then we have set up over 50 dealers including Lowes and we sell our dock nationwide.
Around 1990, Robert had a vision of creating a dock that had benefits along with being nice-looking. The advantages that he was looking for in a dock were longtivity, temperature control, a non-skid surface, and a dock that never held water or sand on the surface. Bob’s son located a vinyl manufacturer and after contacting the manufacturer, Bob had the manufacturer create a die that would perform the advantages that he was looking for in a dock surface and would also be attractive. This process created our vinyl Insta Dock. The vinyl Insta Dock is of such high quality that we have put a 10 year warranty on it.
After the Vinyl Insta Dock was produced, we began making patios and different dock arrangements. The patios started out as being 8’ then went to 12’ to 16’ and now we make a 24’ patio. Along with our patios, we make vinyl benches that connect to our vinyl Insta Dock.
In 2006, Twin Bay Docks and Products decided to produce swim rafts, boat hoists and a rollaway dock that has 3 ½” square tubes and worm gear to adjust the dock from the top of the dock instead of having to get into the water to adjust it. Currently, we have sold over 1000 rollaway docks.
In 2007, Bob decided to sell 49 percent of Twin Bay Docks and Products to his stepson Tom Drabek. Bob will be 75 years old in September and is looking to retire. Twin Bay Docks and Products currently has 10 employees and gross sales have reached over $2 million.
